UPDATE: New Jobs in Las Vegas

As reported last week, the Coast-to-Coast Career Fair taking place on Tuesday, Oct. 18th, has released the list of companies that will be attending. For those of you who registered, check your email for the update. A few of the companies that are hiring include: Diamond Resorts, Gaylord Security, Country Financial, the Transportation Security Administration, and Verizon Wireless.

In addition, Coast-to-Coast recommends attendees bring at least 30 resumes. More good news for the Silver State: New jobs are coming to Las Vegas as fast-growing company Tiecoon.com relocates its operations and headquarters from California to Nevada.

The company makes and sells high quality neckties at discounted prices, and claims it will soon be the nation’s largest necktie wholesaler and retailer. Needless to say, operations are ramping up, and the Las Vegas job market is the primary benefactor.

According to Tiecoon’s CEO, current California business regulations and increased taxes have made operating in the state too challenging for his company. Tiecoon.com will move all operations to the Las Vegas area by year’s end, and has already secured its main facilities. Thus far, the company has said it will need operations personnel, a web technician, and a slew of assistant positions.

Get Your Savvy Networking On

It’s not just social networking anymore. Now, it’s really about focused networking that helps you get the job you deserve. LinkedIn is the best networking site for this purpose, and if you’re not a member yet, sign-up now. Unlike Facebook or Twitter, your LinkedIn account should only contain professional contacts. Past managers, supervisors, and quality coworkers are all email addresses you should migrate to your LinkedIn account.

Once you begin this process, and completely fill-in your personal and professional profile information, LinkedIn will use its algorithms to go out and find people you lost touch with, as well as those you should be in touch with. The site is stellar at this, and you should think carefully before dismissing any suggestions.

Next, you’ll want to join some LinkedIn Groups that make sense for your experience and goals. For example, if you have 10 years in customer service, search for groups on this topic, and join the top 2 or 3 of interest to you.

Once you check-in with your groups on a regular basis –which should be at least three times a week- you’ll see how active and relevant the group is to your goals and interests. Drop any group that doesn’t seem to spark much participation. Whenever you can, answer group questions and respond to discussions with insightful information.

LinkedIn is Like Your Resume On Steroids

Present the best searchable profile possible for all those employers on LinkedIn that want to harvest the LinkedIn crop for a candidate or two. Use built-in programs to promote your public profile, which is also indexed on Google. Finally, apply for jobs with top corporations that post on the LinkedIn Jobs board. You can upload and edit your resume from within the application process on the site.

There are plenty of other ways to network for jobs on the Internet, such as joining specific groups on the web like those found on Yahoo!Groups. More on networking to come. Until then, focus on putting your best foot forward and as always, good luck!
